Sometimes we insulate certain areas of our home because of comfort more than the actual energy saving and some of these key areas would be living space floors above garages and cantilevers (overhangs). Energy efficiency can be achieved by insulating these areas but most people address these areas due to comfort. If you have a bedroom or bathroom over a garage with wood or tile floor then you will most certainly feel the cold coming up through the floor and the only way to prevent this is through the use of spray foam insulation. Every year we receive calls for frozen water lines in these areas and when we arrive on the scene we typically discover that these areas are already insulated with fibreglass batting insulation that just does not work in these applications. As soon as you compress fibreglass when your trying to pack it in tight you actually ruin the R-value of the product and you just can’t fit enough in to be effective so with spray foam insulation’s high R-value per inch and air sealing properties its the perfect fit for the application.
